Irish Uneven XC Championships

Dec 10, 2023

Report by Jim McKeown

Sunday 3rd December brought the curtain down on this year’s cross country age group championships with the Unevens at Navan, and the Lagan juniors did not disappoint with a 30 medal haul (4 individual medals, 11 team medals, plus 9 for County and 6 for Province). Top billing to our u17 girls who backed up their win in the u16s in 2022 with a gold medal team performance, while our u19 men (weakened by a couple of unavoidable absentees) fought valiantly for a very credible 2nd place behind Clonliffe Harriers. Lughaidh Mallon had a brilliant run for 2nd in the same race and Rory Armstrong improved on his 5th in the u14s from last year with a classy 3rd place effort in the u15 boys. There were also top 12s for Katie Keown (8th u15) and Olivia Morgan (9th u17), while Noah Harper (16th) was unlucky in running as he took a tumble on the final turn to the finish when holding 12th place (u17 boys).

Lagan Valley is extremely proud of all our juniors throughout this XC season – well done all.
