National League Final

Lagan Valley AC Men claim bronze in the Division 1 National League Final.

On Sunday the 28th July 2023 Lagan Valley AC made the journey to Tullamore for the 2024 National League Final.

The Ladies Team unfortunately were low on numbers due to injury/holidays etc but the small squad made the club proud with great team spirit. There were wins for Laura Frey in the 400mh and Lynsey Glover in the Hammer as well an amazing debuts for Hannah Cochrane in the steeplechase. Special mention must go to Janet Price for stepping in at the last minute to take a spot in the 1500m walk and Linda Craig in the javelin showing the meaning of team pride and commitment.

The girls finished a strong 7th in Ireland which was a great result considering this was their first time in the Premier Final for over 20 years.

The boys team were the stars of the show with an amazing display of performances resulting in them claiming the bronze medal in the Division 1 Final. This is the first time the men have medalled in the National League in 23 years (fun fact – the only remaining club member from that team is our president John Glover who competed in the Hammer that year).

There were wins for Andrew Proctor in the 200m, Caolan O’Cuinn in the 100m and Tommy Arthur in the steeplechase. These wins were supported by 4 silver medal, and 4 bronze medal performances.

It was amazing the see the depth and development in this boys squad (only 3 were actually even born the last time the men medalled) – it’s a great sign for the future of the club.

Thank you to all who travelled down to support and to our officials from the round and final – Linda Craig and Joan Smith.
