Athletics Ireland National League

 

 

 

Lagan Valley AC made the journey to Santry, Dublin on Sunday 25th June for the Preliminary Round of the Athletics Ireland National Club League. We had representatives from all sections of the senior/junior club with everyone doing themselves and the club proud. 

With 51 teams entered across the categories and thunder and lightning forecast it was inevitable we were in for a long day… which it was!!! But it was an enjoyable one none the less 

Due to a few last minute withdrawals a real team effort was required from all to ensure we got the events covered. Everyone stepped up to the mark with many willing to go outside their comfort zone and try new events which was great to see. 

The Ladies Team put in some great performances resulting in them qualifying in the top 3 for the Division 1 Final in Tullamore, Co.Offaly in August. 

The Men fought right to the final event but unfortunately just missed out on a place in the final by 4 and a half points. 

Mention has to go to Masters Athlete John Glover who stepped down from his usual Over 75 category to compete in the Senior Mens 1500m walk and gave a performance that claimed the 2nd highest point score of the mens team. Lee Webster just pipped him to the top spot with a great 11 points in the javelin.
