Lagan Valley Club Committee

CLUB PRESIDENT: JOHN GLOVER became our Club President in November 2014, following on from Ossie McCauley. John set up the club in 1989 (see history page) and is as active a member these days, both running himself and coaching our thriving ‘Monday night mob’ group, on Mondays AND Thursdays! John is charged with the challenging announcer’s job at our summer Firmus Super 6 series for which task his obvious interest and knowledge of the athletes involved, from across the province, is invaluable.

Lagan Valley Athletic Club is run by a Committee which is elected by the members annually at our AGM in November. The Committee meet on a regular basis to discuss a variety of issues such as Coaching Development, Competition Structure, Recruitment, Travel to Competition outside Northern Ireland and Child Protection and of course help organise our very own Firmus Super 6 series. Like our coaches, these positions are all voluntary and much of the work that is done by them is ‘behind the scenes’. Anyone linked to the club is welcome to stand for committee. We would encourage all members and parents of junior members to attend our AGM and participate as fully as possible in the club.

The Committee currently is:

Stephen is fully involved in club life, joining us after his daughter joined the club and it must be infectious as he has even started running again himself. He has recently sourced our new club gazebo, banners and flags (for representation abroad!) and keeps everyone fed and watered, especially at ‘away’ fixtures.

Only a year after joining our committee, Raymond has already stepped up to the position of secretary. An organised and enthusiastic team member, Raymond is now running with the Monday Mob.

Our ‘money man’, Joe is the guy to go to if you have or need money relating to the club! He takes great care of the club’s finances and manages to combine this and his busy working and family life with his own training – In fact recently he has been doing VERY well at national level multi-events competitions!

Jason is charged with collecting and processing members’ club fees each year at renewal time. He also organises the registering of all paid-up members with Athletics Northern Ireland (ANI), our professional governing body, so that everyone has their ANI registration number come the time for entering races.

A member of our ‘Monday night mob’, Jason fits his training around a busy home and work life, with two young boys.

BRYAN Mc CORKELL – (Child Protection Officer):

As well as coaching at least three times a week throughout the year Bryan is currently the organiser of our club’s successful Firmus Super 6 Series (previously looked after by John Glover, our club President).

Looking after our club kit – she is the go-to lady if you are looking for a vest or hoody – as well as being a most valuable general committee member, and like Stephen, came on board as a result of having offspring in the club.

A most welcome addition to our committee a few years back, David has come on board by virtue of being parent of one of our young stars, Lauren. A keen and enthusiastic member and often the voice of calm at meetings!

A long-time member of the club, ‘Eric here’ (little Facebook joke!) is one of our leading vet athletes. He has always been a strong supporter of club events and of club athletes at events near and far, along with his wife Kate, another keen athlete who we jokingly refer to as his ‘secretary’!

In her 20th year as a club member, Catriona has been running less lately due to injury but is still very involved in the administration side of the club and hopes to make an athletic comeback soon!
