LAGAN VALLEY JUNIOR SPRINT, TRACK & FIELD SQUAD
Sprint Squad is a bit of a misnomer as we really are a ‘Multi Event’ Squad, with sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers. Athletes are encouraged to explore a wide range of events and many do compete in several.
The principle focus in this squad is, skill acquisition and injury prevention. Our pathway can be described by the 4 Cs; Commitment, Concentration, Control and Confidence.
Training consists mainly of exercise and movement skills designed to improve, coordination, flexibility, mobility, posture etc. along with the introduction of the technical aspects of specific events.
We try to establish a ‘Culture of success’ where personal achievement is paramount; from simply mastering a new movement through improving times and distances.
It is important for athletes to understand that learning a sport is a long term process and they won’t be Usain Bolt/Jessica Ennis overnight! So the key in the early stages especially is to have ‘Fun’.
